对于首次在非洲举办的世界杯而言，《飘扬的旗帜》中的非洲元素显然是吸引组委会的重要原因，而其融合手法的运用，也确实更符合全球化战略的推广，只要你对以美国流行音乐为标准的国际化风格不陌生的话。
就在《飘扬的旗帜》被南非世界杯组委会确定为官方主题歌几个月后，国际足联联合近几年来的合作伙伴索尼音乐，也在五月初公布了国际足联版的南非世界杯主题歌，即由哥伦比亚裔歌手夏奇拉创作并演唱的歌曲《WAKA WAKA》，而此举也一度让人茫然于究竟谁才是本届世界杯的主题歌。
